PROOFING TIPS

"The details are not the details. They make the design."
-Charles Eames

Proofing marketing materials and documents is one of the most important parts of the design process at Behind Your Design.  Taking the time to look at and double-check even the smallest of details in the materials that you are proofing can help avoid mistakes that can be costly and embarrassing to your business.

In order to properly proof a document, it is important to know what to look for.  It is also important to train employees that are responsible for the proofing process to help them know what to look for when presented with the material.  Below we have outlined some tips on what to look for during the proofing process.
Behind Your Design Proofing Tips

Proofing Business Cards, Rack Cards, Flyers and Ads

It is extremely important to look at every detail in any type of marketing material that you are proofing.  It is very easy for dates, numbers and names to get transposed when they are sent to us or when they are being updated or added to the materials. Here is a list of important things to look for when proofing:
  • Phone number(s)
  • Address(es)
  • Date and time.  If a day of the week is listed, make sure it is the correct match to the date listed
  • Spelling of name(s) and title(s)
  • Correct spelling and spacing in text blocks
  • Correct spelling of products if listed
  • Pricing details if listed

Proofing Email Blasts

Proofing email blasts can seem very easy, but many aren't aware of the many settings that can be selected when creating an email blast.  The proofing process begins when the email arrives in your inbox.  Below is a list of items to check when proofing an email blast. See the images below for examples.
  • Check for the correct sender in the inbox
  • Check the inbox subject line
  • Check the inbox preview text
  • Make sure all images and buttons link to the appropriate location (i.e.: website address, email address, document)
  • Check all Social Media links
  • Check all days, dates, & times for accuracy
  • Check spelling on all names, locations, & products
  • Check to make sure the email message communicates the correct details
  • View email on a mobile device to make sure the formatting looks good
