Behind Your Design Partners with MSU to Design Custom Seed Packets for Veterans
Behind Your Design is honored to partner with Michigan State University to design seed packets with custom packaging as part of their SNAP Outreach for Veterans program giveaway. The goal of this program is to bring a sense of joy, community pride, and health & therapeutic benefits to veterans by honing their gardening skills. Free seeds were distributed by MSU extension veteran outreach staff to veterans and according to Dr. Adam Ingrao, Army veteran and agricultural entomologist, “the seeds were filling a very important role in the lives of veterans by providing food, a sense of self-reliance, and the therapy of connecting with the land."
“Veteran recipients shared that they loved growing produce from seed, enjoyed working together on gardening projects, and have relished the opportunity to share their harvest with their communities.”
Here are a few key benefits of the program:
- Provides a source of fresh fruits & vegetables rich in nutrients.
- Promotes physical activity through tilling, planting, weeding, watering and harvesting.
- Spending time in nature through gardening can increase mental well-being, mental clarity, feelings of reward, and reduce stress.
